About
Shannon Stach
I believe it takes courage to come to therapy. Talking with a complete stranger about the scariest parts of ourselves is not easy. I strive to be empathetic, compassionate, and non-judgmental in our sessions. What makes me understand the most - I've sat where you will be.
I work from an eclectic approach in our sessions. This means that when we work together to identify some of your goals, I have an array of tools in my back pocket to help find those that best suit your needs and lifestyle.
I also practice from different frameworks that help us to build a relationship of mutual respect and understanding. We will look not only at yourself and your past, but also the systems in your life that might be contributing to the difficulties you are experiencing. I am open to collaborating with other health care providers or loved ones if having your supports connected are important for you in your treatment.
Professional Experience & Development
I'm a qualified Social Worker. This means that I am registered and in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. I hold a Master of Social Work Degree, a Post-Graduate Certificate in Addictions and Mental Health, and a Bachelor's of Applied Science in Adult Development, Families, & Well-Being. Aside from my formal education experiences, I have attended many workshops, trainings, and have obtained certificates in areas such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness, Emotion-Focused Therapy, among others.
I have spent many years in the mental health field counselling in an outpatient hospital setting with both individuals and groups, as well as working with community agencies in different capacities. I love to speak and educate others about mental health challenges and am a strong advocate for accessibility and voice in your treatment.
